Since early nineties,
BEES has been incorporating WatSan activities exclusively with the
assistance form integrated software and hardware support services from the
NGO Forum for DWSS under its collaboration activities. So far, it has been
rendering the services through 4 Village Sanitation Centers (VSCs) along
with its abundant support services for the suffering humanities.
BEES has achieved a sound
experience in rehabilitation work particularly in WatSan activities. In
particular, after any devastating cyclone in coastal belts, BEES
successfully performed rehabilitation activities, which mainly include
building shelter, ensuring safe water & environmental sanitation,
installation of new tubewells, repairing & re-sinking of the damaged
tubewells, dewatering ponds as well as producing water-seal ring-slab
latrines with the financial assistance of the World Relief Canada.
BEES provided the
beneficiaries with credit for tubewell installation and construction of
hygienic latrines. A huge number of tubewells and latrines have been
installed through these initiatives.
Furthermore, BEES
performed arsenic tested for a good number of hand tubewells with its own
efforts. The tubewells with arsenic contamination were marked red while the
arsenic free tubewells were marked green. BEES created awareness among the
people using communication materials on usage of safe water, personal
hygiene practice, disposal of solid waste, and; dreadfulness of arsenic &
arsenic mitigation options. Besides, plentiful promotional activities were
accomplished to strengthen the hardware support services in WatSan.
