Sensitivity towards human rights, gender and governance issues in Bangladesh
is possessed by BEES. In its 28 years of journey, BEES believes firmly in
some popular contemporary views - development is gender blind; the
trickle-down benefits of development should equally reach women and men; all
households should enjoy the same benefits and the same constraints etc.
Differential allocation of benefits of cash, food, education, training,
credit, land-title, health care, social inequality and abusive
differentiation of human rights are often experienced. BEES has its vision
towards promoting a just society in which both men and women can work
together to form institution to attain a greater degree of self-reliance in
managing their own affairs, resources and achieve a higher and sustainable
standard of living.
Gender awareness and
women & legal right activities under BEES are initiated with the objectives
to increase social awareness on gender related issues and to extend the
legal supports to its group members to establish women's legal rights for
eliminating all types of discrimination against women. Women group members
of BEES are now more aware of their rights concerning women’s legal rights,
dowry, divorce, demerits of early marriage & unregistered marriage,
Mohorana (dowar), polygamy, inheritance and ownership of property,
family planning etc. |
